What is SSC CHSL Exam?

The Staff Selection Commission will hold a competitive examination for recruitment to the posts of Lower Divisional Clerk/Junior Secretariat Assistant, Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant and Data Entry Operators for various Ministries/ Departments/ Offices of the Government of India.

Vacancies:

4500 Vacancies are out. Updated vacancy position will be uploaded on the website of the Commission. Posts are as follows-

(A) Data Entry Operator (DEO).

(B) Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC).

(C) Court Clerk.

(D) Postal Assistant.

(E) Sorting Assistant.

Eligibility As on 01 Jan 22:

For LDC/ JSA, PA/ SA, DEO (except DEOs in C&AG) –  Candidates must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or
University.

For Data Entry Operator (DEO Grade ‘A’) In the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG) – 12th Standard pass in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board or equivalent.

Age:

Between 18-27 years for SSC CHSL. Candidates born not before 02 Jan 95 and not later than 01 Jan 04 are eligible to apply (Relaxation as Per Government Rules).

Important Dates:

Online Form submission Start – 06 Dec 22.

Last Date to Submit Application – 04 Jan 23.

SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam Dates – Feb – Mar 23.

What is SSC Exam?

SSC conducts the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) exam to recruit candidates for DEO, LDC, Postal Assistant posts. To qualify this exam with high marks, one must be aware of the SSC CHSL Syllabus.

What are Various Exam Steps?

SSC CHSL exam consists of 3 Tiers namely Tier 1, Tier 2 & Tier 3. Here we tried to brief you the complete description of Tier 1, Tier 2 & Tier 3 Syllabus, and SSC CHSL exam pattern with important topics.

SSC CHSL 2020 Marking Scheme:

SSC CHSL exam is conducted in 3 tiers, and candidates need to clear all the stages to get selected for multiple posts in the Government Offices. SSC CHSL Tier 1 is Objective Multiple Choice Question paper, Tier 2 exam is Descriptive Paper in English/Hindi, while Tier 3 is the Computer Proficiency Test.

SSC CHSL Syllabus & Exam Pattern For Tier 1:

The SSC CHSL Tier 1 is the first step towards the success where candidates will be appearing for 100 questions competing against lakhs of candidates. As per Latest CHSL Syllabus 2020 Candidates will be given 100 questions from 4 subjects namely, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension to be attempted in 60 minutes.

The marking scheme along with the complete CHSL syllabus 2020 of all sections under Tier 1 has been discussed below:

Section 1 – Subject General Intelligence and Reasoning – No of Questions 25- Max Marks 50.

Section 2 – General Awareness – No of Questions 25- Max Marks 50.

Section 3 – Quantitative Aptitude – No of Questions 25 – Max Marks 50.

Section 4 – English Comprehension- No of Questions 25- Max Marks 50.

Total Questions – 100, Total Marks – 200, Exam Duration 60 min.

There is negative marking in SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam. Giving a wrong answer to a question will lead to a penalty of 0.5 marks in all sections.

The exam duration is 80 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped.

SSC CHSL Syllabus Tier 1:

The questions asked in Tier 1 are included from four subjects; General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension.

The overview of the section-wise SSC CHSL 2020 Exam syllabus is given in the below table. Candidates must go through all the topics, make a list of important topics and start studying to crack the exam.

General Intelligence and Reasoning –

Logical Reasoning, Alphanumeric Series, Ranking/Direction/Alphabet Test, Data Sufficiency, Coded Inequalities, Seating Arrangement, Puzzle Mensuration,  Tabulation Data Interpretation, Syllogism, Input-Output Sequence & Series
Coding-Decoding

Quantitative Ability Syllabus –

Simplification,  Profit & Loss,  Mixtures & Allegations, Simple Interest & Compound Interest & Surds & Indices, Work & Time, Time & Distance, Cylinder, Cone, Sphere, Ratio & Proportion, Percentage, Permutation, Combination & Probability.

English Language Syllabus –

Reading Comprehension, Cloze Test, Para jumbles, Miscellaneous, Fill in the blanks, Multiple Meaning/Error Spotting, Paragraph Completion, One Word Substitution, Active/Passive Voice .

General Awareness Syllabus –

SSC CHSL Syllabus for General Intelligence & Reasoning –

The Reasoning syllabus would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The test will include questions on Semantic Analogy, Symbolic operations, Symbolic/ Number Analogy, Figural Analogy, Space Orientation, Semantic Classification, Venn Diagrams, Symbolic/ Number Classification, Figural Classification, Punched hole/ pattern-folding & unfolding, Semantic Series, Figural Pattern – folding and completion, Number Series, Embedded figures, Figural Series, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Word Building, Coding and de-coding, and Other sub-topics if any numerical operations.

SSC CHSL Syllabus for the English Language   –

English language in SSC CHSL includes Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/ Homonyms, Antonyms, Spellings/ Detecting misspelt words, Idioms & Phrases, One-word substitution, Improvement of Sentences, Active/ Passive Voice of Verbs, Conversion into Direct/ Indirect narration, Shuffling of Sentence parts, Shuffling of Sentences in a passage, Cloze Passage, Comprehension Passage.

Quantitative Aptitude Syllabus –

The SSC CHSL Quantitative Aptitude syllabus is the lengthiest and gives a hard time to many aspirants. The topics covered in Quantitative aptitude have been listed below with the subtopics. Candidates must go through this syllabus and prepare accordingly.

Arithmetic:

Number Systems: Computation of Whole Number, Decimal and Fractions, Relationship between numbers.

Fundamental arithmetical operations:

Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest (Simple and Compound), Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Allegation, Time and distance, Time and work.

Algebra:

Basic algebraic identities of Algebra and Elementary surds (simple problems) and Graphs of Linear Equations.

Geometry:

Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts, Triangle and its various kinds of centers, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles.

Mensuration:

Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square Base.

Trigonometry:

Trigonometric ratios, Complementary angles, Height and distances (simple problems only) Standard Identities like sin2 + Cos2=1, etc.

Statistical Charts:

Use of Tables and Graphs: Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar- diagram, Pie-chart.

SSC CHSL Syllabus for General Awareness. –

Questions are designed to test the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions are also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General policy, and scientific research.

SSC CHSL Tier 2 Syllabus 2020 –

(a) Paper 2 would comprise writing of an Essay of 200-250 words and writing of Letter /Application writing of approximately 150-200 words.

(b) The minimum qualifying marks in Tier 2 would be 33 percent.

(c) The performance in Tier 2 would be included in preparing the final merit.
The paper will have to be written either in Hindi or in English.

(d) Part paper written in Hindi and Part in English will not be evaluated.

As mentioned above, this paper requires candidates to write an essay and Letter/Application that tests the writing skills of the candidates. The essay topics will be related to National Interest, Finance & Economy, Ecological Issues, Social Issues, Politics, Schemes & Governance, Technology, Sports, Geopolitics, Environmental Concerns, etc. While, the type of letter/ application asked will be Complaint, Suggestion, Application, Official Appreciation, Follow up or Feedback, etc.

SSC CHSL Tier 3 Syllabus:

Tier-III of SSC CHSL 2019-20 will be a Skill/ Typing Test which would be of qualifying nature. The final merit of the selected candidates will be based on the basis of the total score obtained in Tier 1 and Tier 2.

Data Entry Operator –

Data Entry Speed of 8000 key depressions per hour on the computer.

The duration of the test will be for 15 minutes.

Printed matter in English containing about 2000-2200 key-depressions would be given to each candidate who will enter the same in the test computer

Data Entry Operator in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG) –

The ‘speed of 15000 key depressions per hour will be considered on the basis of the correct entry of words or key depressions as per the given passage.

The duration of the test will be for 15 minutes.

Printed matter in English containing about 3700-4000 key-depressions to enter the same in the test computer.

Lower Division Clerk/ Junior Secretariat Assistant (LDS/JSA) and Postal Assistants/ Sorting Assistants (PA/SA) –

The speed of 10500 key depressions per hour will be adjudged.

The duration of the test will be for 15 minutes.

Printed matter in English containing about 9000 key-depressions/hour will be given to each candidate to enter the same in the test computer.

SSC CHSL 2018 Skill Test: Change of Examination Centre Options Announced.

In recent notification, the Commission has announced to allow the facility of change of examination centres to candidates of Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2018 (Skill Test) scheduled on 26 Nov 20. Its a big relief for the candidates. Read full news here.

How to Change Examination Centre?

1. Candidates are required to login through their ‘Registration Number’ and ‘Password’ on the website of the Commission or click below:

2. The option for change of examination centre will be available in the Candidates’ Dashboard under the Tab ‘Latest Notifications’ from 29 Oct 20.

3. Candidates are requested to read carefully the instructions given in the Dashboard for change of Centre and follow them.
